Release of import containers from the Far East will soon be less susceptible to fraud
Chain of trust extended
From February 3 of next year, import containers from the Far East and Oceania can only be released in the port of Rotterdam via the so-called chain of trust of approximately 2,000 authorized shippers, forwarders and carriers.
The two regions are the last two intercontinental sailing areas where the shipping companies/carriers switch to the Trust Chain. The Far East is the largest supplier of import containers in the port of Rotterdam.
No PIN codes
The connection of companies with containers from Africa, the Middle East, India and Pakistan was completed at the beginning of this month. After February 3, 2025, the shipping companies/carriers also want to route their intra-European and feeder cargo via the Trust Chain. About 1,475 shippers and forwarders and 960 carriers have now made the switch to the digital system.
With the introduction of the Chain of Trust, the use of fraud-sensitive PIN codes will stop and containers will be released via a closed logistics chain where only authorized parties give each other the right to pick up a container at the terminal.
