What is a phytosanitary certificate?
In the realm of international trade, phytosanitary certificates serve as crucial documents accompanying shipments of plants and/or plant products from the exporting country to the importing country. These certificates attest to the phytosanitary health of the goods, ensuring compliance with plant health regulations and facilitating smooth border crossings. We seamlessly guide our clients through the intricacies of obtaining and utilizing these essential documents, ensuring the unhindered movement of plant-based commodities across international borders.
Issued by the authorities of the exporting country, a phytosanitary certificate serves as an official declaration that the accompanying plant products are free from any diseases or pests that could pose a threat to the importing country's ecosystem. This document plays a crucial role in facilitating international trade in plants and plant products by ensuring biosecurity and preventing the spread of harmful organisms.
The issuance of a phytosanitary certificate signifies a crucial step in international plant trade. This document, issued by the inspection authority of the exporting country, serves as a formal declaration to the importing country's government that the accompanying shipment adheres to the phytosanitary requirements stipulated by the importing nation. The certificate is granted based on thorough inspections conducted on the products prior to their export.
The process of acquiring a phytosanitary certificate has been streamlined through the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority's (NVWA) e-CertNL platform. Exporters can conveniently enter all relevant information and submit it electronically to the inspection authority for certification. If deemed necessary, an inspection will be scheduled, carried out by the designated inspection service. Upon completion of the inspection, the inspector electronically relays the results to e-CertNL. Once the shipment is deemed export-worthy, the exporter can print the phytosanitary certificate and present it to the inspection service for authentication.
