Strong current pushes cargo ship against weir causing it to sink

Retrieved from video footage can be seen how the ship is pushed against the weir, quickly makes water and then sinks. Miraculously, the two-man crew could be disembarked unharmed by the fire brigade. At the time of the collision, the skipper was in his wheelhouse.
Powerful current
"Due to a very strong side current on the Meuse, the vessel collided with the weir," a fire service spokesman told a local news channel. "The vessel started making water quickly after the collision and sank."
The extent of damage to the weir has not yet been determined. The waterway was not closed, but navigation was escorted by a Department of Public Works vessel.
The Borgharen weir on the Meuse is part of the water works to make the river more navigable for inland navigation.
Built in 1952
The 'Humadivi' has the year of construction as 1952 and was built at the Bodewes yard in Martenshoek, the Netherlands. The vessel is 66.95 metres long and 8.18 metres wide. It has a carrying capacity of 878 tonnes and a draft of 2.52 metres. The 'Humadivi' was loaded with sand at the time of the incident.
