Container giant HMM en route to Rotterdam after collision
Crew arrives with scare
In the Strait of Gibraltar on Tuesday, South Korean shipping company HMM's container giant 'HMM St Petersburg', a 24,000 teu vessel, collided with the Greek oil tanker 'Gloria Maris'. The accident happened off the Spanish port of Algeciras.
The ship's crews, 24 and 25 people respectively, were unharmed and there was no environmental emergency either, but there would be damage to both vessels. Spanish authorities have detained the vessels and are investigating the cause of the accident.
The 'HMM St Petersburg' arrived from Asia. Algeciras was scheduled as the first port of call in Europe. Rotterdam is the next destination; according to the original sailing schedule, the ship was expected there next Monday. Hamburg, Antwerp and London Gateway are also looking forward to the arrival of the now embattled vessel.
The video below from the Portuguese rescue team on X shows the damage to the 'Gloria Maris'.
